Out and about....art of the trench

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
I first met up with William almost 2 years ago when he was in town with his Mum for his birthday. At the time I was taking pic's for the Vogue Street style competition. You can see the picture I took of him then, here. William was at university at the time and his goal then was to work for Vogue. Since we last met he has moved to London and is in the middle of a masters in fashion journalism. It was good to see him and learn that he is still concentrating on his goal to work for Vogue. He describes his style as tailored. For summer he is channeling Brideshead Revisited for his look, wearing cravats etc. Today he is wearing an Aquascutum trench, TM Lewin shirt, vintage bowtie, Primark cardy, Levis jeans, his dads belt, John Lewis boots (they are his favourite Chelsea boots) and carrying a Mulberry bag.

Out and about....facing traffic

From Fashionistable
Maria is from Latvia and works in fashion retail for Net-A-Porter. She has only been in the UK 4 or 5 months so is new here. She says she has been surprised by the weather and the very nice people here. Her favourite place so far is Greenwich, which reminds me I haven't been there for a very long time. Must check it out again. She told me she tends to drink a lot of coffee and coke. Her headphones belong to her boyfriend, says they have a good sound, she was listening to SOAD when I stopped her.
Her shirt is H&M, trousers Burberry, shoes Hilfiger and she bought her bag in a street market.

Out and about....red, white and blue

From Fashionistable
In keeping with the colourful weekend we have just had here in the UK, I thought I would start my week in a colourful way too. Leeann is a stylist, she had her arms full of clothes when we met (we hung them up just out of shot). She was preping for a shoot for the 1st issue of a new magazine called Hunk (for women). Leeann told me she is a complete feminist. I think it is sad how in the past few years this word has been given negative press - the dictionary meaning reads "the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men". Now ladies what can be so bad in that? Leeann went on to tell me that she has even had coke cans thrown at her in the studio when she has stuck up for herself. I find that more shocking than the fact she is a feminist. There is a rise in the numbers of young women being physically abused by their partners, is this a result of the turn away from feminism and the weakening of the fairer sex? Ooops I didnt mean to get quite so deep into this. How do you feel about this subject? Her dress is a one off piece, the boots are a Japanese brand called KTZ and her scarf and rings are vintage.
P.S she also has a blog you can check it out here.

Out and about....is a cinch

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Phoebe is a 1st year fashion student at Middlesex Uni. Her own personal style is so amazing that I am so looking forward to seeing her designs on the catwalks and the shelves. She told me she takes all opportunities as they come along and boy are they coming her way. Just before we met she had been invited to appear on a TV dating show "You've been spotted", she has appeared in advertising for Swatch watches and is in a film which is going to Cannes called Separate Ways. See what I mean, just look what an open mind will bring you. When I ask for surprises from my subjects I sometimes get them in abundance. Her look today is comprised of glasses from Therapy, a vintage scarf and skirt, H&M top and tights, corset from What Katie Did, shoes from Miss Sixty and gloves from Topshop.
I couldn't resist the 2nd shot as she walked away, even the soles of her shoes are co-ordinated. Wonderful. (A quick note to girls who don't take the prices off the soles of their shoes - see how important it is that you do. It is just important to make a good impression from the back as it is from the front.)

Out and about....Laura from my987wardrobe

From Fashionistable
I first met Laura about a year ago, just after she set up her website my987wardrobe, where everything was £9.87. She has now expanded into a premium range 1987 (or £19.87). The reason for doing this is it has been a challenge for her to find good quality garments for her site in the £9.87 range. As her aim is to bring us good quality at a reasonable price she has had to look further up the price bracket. So far the new range, is selling really well, so it has been a positive move "everyone is happy to pay that little bit extra".  Her floral tired D&G inspired dress is from the new range and has just also been featured in Grazia, you can also see and buy it here.

Out and about....walking with Jesus

From Fashionistable
I met Cassie as she was walking Jesus through Soho. Her and her boyfriend named him Jesus as he was born on Christmas day, he is cute huh. Cassie works part-time for Vivienne Westwood, she also has her own business in Camden called Guts for Garters. When I asked her where favourite place in London was she said it was Soho "it is the heart and soul of London. I wouldn't change it for the world." Very happily she also lives there. Her surprising story was that she had just done a naked photo shoot the day before. For this shot she is wearing, a vintage overcoat, jacket by Child of the Jago, H&M trousers, Joux Joux shoes. Her glasses are Ray Ban and belt is by Vivienne Westwood.

Out and about....enjoying London

From Fashionistable
Laina and Guoquan are both 2nd year students and both from China. Laina is studying jewelery design and Guoquan, magazine publishing. They both like the shopping and life in London. Liana's favourite place is Piccadilly Circus and Guoquan's is Mayfair. Laina draws inspiration from nature and photos for her jewelery designs and Guoquan's surprise is he loves to dance in nightclubs. Laina's look is compromised of glasses from Chanel, Burberry coat, her top and shorts were bought in China, berry tights from Wolford, shoes Miu Miu and I cant make out where she got her bag from, maybe Celene. Guoquan is wearing a hat from Marc Jacobs, jacket from Acne, shirt and jeans Topman, shoes Louboutin and is carrying a Celine bag.

Out and about....Mondrian inspiration

From Fashionistable
How could Charlotte's shirt not catch your eye. It is bold and bright and is by Moschino. Moschino's motto was "fashion should be fun and should send a message". I think he would have felt this shirt lived up to his motto. Charlotte works for Modus PR. She told me that she did design at Kingston Uni and just sort of fell into PR which has been an ongoing internship. She likes East London best saying that the night life is good. Surprisingly she says she did the mini marathon when she was at school. The rest of her outfit is made up of jacket from All Saints, shorts from Topshop, shoes by Jeffery Campbell and a COS bag.

Out and about....a quiet moment

Alexandra looked very peaceful reading her book, she has created a little oasis of calm around her. She is a journalist for lookatme.ru. Although it is hard to see in the shot she has lovely freckles.

Out and about....Paris Fashion Week Anna Dello Russo

From Fashionistable
Yes the other waking thought on the Monday was Anna. I had seen her a couple of times before and shot her on the move and apart from the shot in the crowd when she was with Kanye I hadn't caught her. She is amazing, in many ways. It took me a while to realise that if, like everyone else you actually speak to her she will stop. Here she had just passed the 1st bank of photographers and was briefly on her own. So I had my chance. Once she stopped it didnt take long for other photographers to surround me and join in. But she was brilliant and because I had asked her for the shot she looked at me. I love this rock chick look on her - it is Balmain. I wish I had caught more of her looks - next time.

Out and about....Paris Fashion Week Bill Cunningham

From Fashionistable
On the last day I woke and asked myself a question - who do you want to photograph today? Immediately two 2 names came to mind, I cant remember the order but Bill was one (you will see the other tomorrow). I had met and introduced myself to him on the Saturday and later thought I should have asked for a picture. So when I saw him on Monday I thought, thank goodness he is here and went and spoke to him again. And here is my image of him. He was very sweet telling me that he loves what he does. I feel exactly the same way, I love doing this too.

Out and about....sunny Finchley

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Lucy is a freelance TV producer. She is a Londoner and has been living in Finchley for the past 11 years. Her favourite place in London is The Bridge in Shoreditch, it looks lovely. For style inspiration she looks to vintage, "no particular era, though mostly the 50's, not that I am very 50's today." Her surprise was that she is getting married in July and has just started dress shopping. For our shot today she is wearing a coat from Topshop, the collar is an eBay purchase. Her arm warmers were made by her Mum and the beautiful blue dress is vintage.

Out and about....beautiful smile

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Rachel has a beautiful smile and laugh. I am going to start with her surprising things, Rachel was Miss Great Britian in 2007. Before she won the competition she was working on an oil rig. Originally from Scotland Rachel now lives in North London and is modeling with BMA. Her favourite places in London are Hampstead Heath and Hyde Park in summer. I love this look and was amazed when she told me how she put it together, here we go. Glasses are Ray Ban, cape Zara, vintage playsuit, Topshop belt, KG shoes and Chloe bag. I also thought her accessories helped set the whole look off - 2 necklaces, the longer one is a key and belonged to her grandma, the second was a cameo from Accessorize. Her other cameo, the brooch, used to belong to her boyfriends grandma. Altogether a  great combination.

Out and about....sunshine after the rain

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Anabel told me her friends make fun of her and see it as a bit of cliche to be a dancer and a model. Do you think there may be just a tiny wee bit of jealousy going on here? Her dancing pedigree is amazing. She started her career in ballet but is now a contemporary dancer. At the moment she is part of the cast of Dirty Dancing. She is also part of Matthew Bourne's company. When I asked her about London she said "there is so much to do here, you can never be bored." Her days are filled with castings, modeling assignments, art galleries and when we met she was going off to see a show. Her style influence is her Mum whom she says is her style icon. She said her Mum likes layering and floaty floor length clothing think Biba and Ossie Clark. For her own look today she is wearing a hat from Christys, which was a present from her boyfriend and her scarf belongs to him. (He is also a blogger, you can check out his blog, Maketh the Man here.) Anabel's coat was from Moss Bros and used to belong to her Mum when she was a child. The shirt was given to her by a friend. At this part the conversation she said, looks like I have been dressed by everyone else. However, she bought her skirt when she was in Australia as part of a 3 month world tour she was on with Matthew Bourne. Her socks were from a market, she thought Spitalfields, shoes are Office and her bag is Prada.

James is a Londoner and works for Church's. He said the best thing about London was today's weather (as you can see it was sunny when we shot). He describes his style as an old fashioned classic look. Influenced by the America of the 20's and 30's. James like's to travel and is off to Tuscany this summer. Here, he is wearing a Prada suit. His hat is from River Island and all his other accessories are from Church's, tie, belt and shoes.

From Fashionistable
When I met Alex she was on her way to meet her partner to go to an edit. She is an Art Director with Wieden and Kennedy. Her favourtite place in London is Brick Lane which is close to where she works. She told me there is nothing surprising about her. Her bag and bangle are by Fleetilya, the cape is from Topshop and everything else is vintage.

Out and about....unplug the jukebox

From Fashionistable
Marta is a fashion designer and is getting ready for her show in March. I am guessing it will be in Europe as I forgot to ask her. She is also working on her website and when it is ready you will be able to see her work here. To make it all possible she is also working part-time at Issey Miyake. Busy lady. Her own design influence mainly stems from music. It creates a mood and allows her to see colour and shape. The people who influence her most are Adam Ant (whom she says she knows), Madonna and John Galliano. Marta is half Russian and half Lithuanian, but has been in London now for 3 years. Her favourite place in London is the V&A. Her coat is by Trussardi (I think). What looks like is a scarf is actually a Issey Miyake cardy. She couldn't remember where her tights were from. Accessory wise her earrings are Dior, shoes are Russell and Bromley and her bag is Italian.

Out and about....colourful vintage

From Fashionistable
Tom and Teri-Jayne met at Bestival at the end of last summer. Tom is at Uni in Sheffield and Teri-Jayne is about to move up there to be near him. She finished her degree in fashion in the summer. Tom is studying English and film studies. Teri-Jayne has been working for Vivienne Westwood. All the girls I have photographed who work for her are very colourful see here and here (look for Lisa Reynolds). I asked them where their favourite place in London was. Tom said Mile End which is were Teri-Jayne lives (for now) and Teri-Jayne said Sketch which is were she went for her birthday recently. When I met them they had just been buying some lomography film and were going off to visit the Museum of Everything in Primrose Hill. Their surprises were that Tom has a grade A in drumming and Teri-Jayne is really into dinosaurs. Tom's coat is from Beyond Retro, his shirt is from a charity shop, tie is made from some ribbon from a haberdashery dept. His jeans are from Gap, shoes are his dad's and the socks are from M&S. The bag is actually Teri-Jayne's and is from Spain. Teri-Jayne is wearing a coat from a charity shop, collar, scarf, cardy and playsuit from Beyond Retro and her shoes are from Underground.
