Focus On Rose Langenbein

I photographed and interviewed Rose in Paris during Paris Fashion Week as part of my Spotlight series. Having first met Rose in Ukraine I was instantly struck by her wonderful sense of style and then, when we got chatting her vivacious energy and love of life.
Rose is the Styling Director at My Theresa and here we shine a spotlight on her and her journey in fashion. She is great, read on and be inspired.

D: Tell me a bit  about yourself and your journey in fashion so far…

R: I am the eldest of four daughters and I have always been different from the rest of my family.
My interest in fashion started early on at the age of 5 years when I told my mother what I wanted to wear. During my school years I worked in boutiques and modelled a bit on the side.
I left my home town when I was 28 years old and started working as a sales assistant in a boutique in Mannheim. After five years I moved to Munich to work as assistant store manager at Prada. I became store manager and left the store after three and a half years to work as shop manager for the Theresa store in Munich. I was responsible for the merchandising and took care of VIP customers which allowed me to travel a lot. In 2008 I took a position in the styling department at mytheresa.com and after two years I was promoted to Styling Director.

D: What does the role of a styling director entail and what is your creative process?

R: I am responsible for the presentation and styling of all products on the website. It is my job to ensure that we create a look that appeals to our customers and reflects our designers’ visions while at the same time staying true to the overall look and feel of mytheresa.com.

D: What is the favourite part of your job?

R: I love to share my experience and know-how with my team and watch them grow in their creativity and their roles. I also really enjoy travelling for different projects, e.g. fashion weeks, where I get inspired by the shows, stores and especially by people I meet with their different personalities and experiences in the fashion industry.

D: Who or what inspires you?

R: I am mainly inspired through travelling – I often travel to Asia, especially India where you always get inspired by colours, old traditional fabrics and arts. I also look to magazines (editorials, photographers and other stylists) and social media for new angles and ideas. And then there certain people whose extraordinary beauty and personality I greatly admire: e.g. Romy Schneider, Ian Curtis and Alexander McQueen.

D: Describe your own personal style…

R: I would describe my style as edgy, mischievous and eclectic but strong – basically my mood dictates my daily styling.

D: Tell me something surprising about yourself.

R: I have never properly learnt to skateboard which is one of the things still on my to-do list – the same goes for surfing!

Out and about....behind the scenes - Elena Perminova

The first shot of Elena was taken just before the Jean Paul Gaultier show. The second while we were waiting for the show to start. The only rest our street style stars actually get is when the shows are on and of course when they are in their cars between the shows. But Elena and Miroslava from yesterday are brilliant, playful and give us lots of time to get our shots. In these shots she is wearing a Louis Vuitton hat, Tommy Hilfiger jumper and Balenciaga  (I want these) shoes.

Out and about....taking a break

From Fashionistable
Let me describe the scene. This was a blisteringly hot day. It was 1.30 in the afternoon in the Tuileries (in Paris) and even though everyone was turning up for the Viktor and Rolf show I had to leave as I thought I was dying. It was about 30 degrees and the sun was beating down. Now I love the sun and the heat BUT the surface on the ground of the Tuileries is white so what was coming down was also bouncing back up. I just couldn't function. I believe, if something doesn't feel right and you move something special will come your way and that day was no exception. As I made my out of the park and down one of the shaded side avenues I came across this scene. I took quite a few shots before I caught Akari attention. I had seen her walking Theo and he just stopped and sat down and quite simply refused to move. So she started to text while he had a rest. The whole time however he sat and looked straight at me while I took pictures. I wanted her to look too which is why eventually I shouted hello. She was surprised but let me take a few frames. Akari is a stylist. Her dress and shoes are Balenciaga, her glasses are Immanuel Khan and her bag is Aha.

Out and about....it's all in the smile

From Fashionistable
I met Kamilla near Carnaby Street. She is a model with Premier and was on her way to a casting. When I asked her to tell me something surprising about herself she told me she loves to smile. This is surprising as it is not something models get to do a lot. She does have a lovely smile though. For her casting she was wearing a scarf by Balenciaga, a vintage playsuit, coat from Zara, boots by Tods, glasses by Prototype and is carrying a Vivienne Westwood bag.

Out and about....Thouq

From Fashionistable
Yousef is from Kuwait and is the fashion editor for the online magazine Thouq. He was in London for 10 days, for inspiration and to find lots of different looks. He told me that from his perspective each of the big European cities have their own unique look and feel. Paris is black, Milan is colour and London is a combination of both and is also funky. His own style is either casual or extreme depending on his mood. It was a cold day, so casual was obviously winning. His surprise and I guess phobia too is rabbits - no rabbit fur for him then. His hat he bought in Paris but can't remember where from. Sweater is H&M, jeans are by Marc Jacobs, boots are Gucci, bag Balenciaga and the shades are Ray Ban. The amazing chunky bracelet is by Givenchy, his watch is a Swatch and his ring was custom made and is his name in Arabic.
