Out and about....Amsterdam on my mind

So, the last shot I posted was of a citizen of the Netherlands. Little did I know at the time of posting that my next image would come to you from there. I have just returned from a advertising job I shot there last week. It was a pretty packed schedule but I  managed a couple of hours to myself which was when I met Xue.
Xue described herself as a freelancer. For me the dungarees, the bike and the headphones make a perfect combination. She says that no one believes she can cook but she is really good at it. When I asked her what she likes to cook best she told me Fusion and Asian.
She is wearing vintage Levis dungarees, a Replay shirt, COS shoes, Hugo Boss sunglasses and Bose headphones. Her bike is a Gazelle.

Out and about....Miss Sunshine

I am back in the UK. But before I show you what I have been up to since I have been back I have 2 posts from the Dam to share with you. Lucy became a treasured friend while I was in Amsterdam. Her enthusiasm is infectious. She is bubbly, creative and was so full of info about Amsterdam she made life so much easier for me. In fact just before I left I helped her set up her own blog called an extra pair of hands. She certainly was for me. Check her out and give her the extra encouragement we all need when we start out. Lucy loves vintage and does it very well she describes her style influence as mix and match but loves the ladies of the 1950's. Originally from Hextable in Kent, Lucy has lived in Amsterdam for the past 5 years. On her creative side she was a member of the Michael Clark Company with whom she toured Europe. She is also a qualified flower arranger. Show me a creative who doesn't have more than one string to their bow. At the moment she is working as a recruiter for an Ad agency. When I asked her, her favourite place in Amsterdam she said her new home with her boyfriend and their dog. Lucy's surprise was that she has had this hair colour for over 20 years. She was very young when she started colouring it.
In the 1st image she is wearing a scarf and top from Waterlooplein Market, American Vintage cardy, 1947 limited edition 501 Levis which were a present from her boyfriend. Her boots were a present from her Grandad "I have had them them for a while..."and her bag is from Zara. In the 2nd shot/s she is wearing a coat she bought while I was there it is a beautiful vintage swing coat. Everything else she is wearing in this shot is vintage too. In the 3rd shot her dress is from ASOS, and shoes and bag are Zara scarf is vintage.

Out and about....Davies St

From Fashionistable
Kajsa and Charlie were shopping in South Molton Street when we met but there was no sun there anymore so they kindly came round the corner with me and into the evening light. I loved the pop of red that is Kajsa hair against her otherwise black palette. Charlie is in the shot too because of his curly hair and painterly shorts. Kajsa is from Sweden and Charlie is a Londoner. Kajsa told me she gets her style inspiration from her friends. For Charlie who is a fine art student at the Royal Academy it is Picasso. When I ask people about their surprising fact, they sometimes hum and ha so I try and help them out with examples of what others have said. With these guys one of my examples was the feminist issue we had a week or so ago. Kajsa said she finds it surprising and upsetting when women say they are not feminists. Charlie said that surprisingly he was a feminist. Way to go Charlie. When I asked him what inspires his art he said "the future". Kajsa is wearing a dress from Rodebjer, vest from Cheap Monday, Vagabond shoes and her glasses are from a mini market in Sweden. Charlies' top is by St James and was a present from a friend when he went to art school as it was like the top Picasso used to wear. His cut offs are Levis - the other half of which is now in a painting. His shoes are DM's and glasses Polaroid. Their favourite place's in London are Beauvoir Square in Hackney for Kajsa and Victoria Park for Charlie.

Out and about....small town, big city

From Fashionistable
Pedro and David are both from the same small town in Portugal and are both studying fashion design at St Martins. (Are we looking at the next big designer collaboration in fashion?) When I asked them what they liked best about London they both agreed it was the freedom to express themselves in their dress. They used to be ridiculed for the way they dress in the small town they are from, saying in London people are more individual and original and like what they wear. Ari Seth Cohen over at Advanced Style wrote an interesting piece this week about a young man from South Carolina asking for help with the fashion bulling he was going through. So it goes on everywhere.
Pedro told me the the most surprising thing about himself is the way he wears his clothes. David told me he could knit. Now these guys are dressed wonderfully and after they had gone I was kicking myself that I didn't give you a close up on their hands as they were both wearing amazing rings. I will tell you about them in a mo when I let you know where they are from. Pedro's style influence today is Philip Treacy and military. Usually it is just the 1st thing he sees. Here he is wearing a hat by Philip Tracey, his coat and shirt are Burberry, I think (a combination of atrocious hand writing and it was cold). Levi jeans, Gucci shoes, vintage glasses, Caroline Herrera bag and an Alexander McQueen skull ring. David is wearing a Rick Owens coat, Dsquared cardy, Levi's, boots from and alternative shop in Portugal and a YSL ring.

Out and about....always in heels

From Fashionistable
Arabella told me she was always in heels. Rob backed her up and said he had never seen her in anything other than heels. They look great together even though their style influences are quite different. Rob describes himself as a "big, big 90's hip hop fan even for a skinny white boy". It is all about sneaker culture for him. For Arabella it is the 1960s print and pop. She likes to follow street style blogs and also the enigmatic Anna Dello Russo who is a favourite. When dressing, where she can she likes to mix high and low end together. Rob is at Uni studying History of Art. His favourite period being the 17th Century. Arabella works in event production. I should have asked them how they met. Surprisingly Rob is fluent in Hungarian as he lived there for 5 years "not the most useful language to be fluent in the world." (Some great photographers came out of Hungary though, Robert Cappa for example.) Arabella's Mum writes knitting books so as a result she knows how to knit very well. Here Arabella is wearing a hat knit by herself, an Oasis coat, her sweater and boots from Zara, Unique skirt from Topshop and a Hennes bag. Rob is sporting a New Era cap, his sneakers are Air Jordon 1s "it is always Nike for sneakers. I am a one brand man". His shirt is Uniqlo, sweater from an American vintage website, Levi jeans and Adidas jacket.

Out and about....enjoying the summer

From Fashionistable
Juby (on the left) and Steph (on the right) are both students. Juby is studying Fashion and Painting in the USA at SCAD and Steph is studying Chemical Engineering at UCL here in the UK. They were on their way to meet more friends for lunch when I met them. Juby is in the UK visiting friends at the moment and will be heading off to the South of France next for the rest of the summer to study. Her favourite painter is Mark Rothko. She is still figuring out how to combine her love of Fashion and Art. Steph plans to get to a couple of festivals this summer. Her style icon is Sienna Miller. Juby is wearing a grey top from Urban Outfitters, the braces are her step dads, cut off Levis are her mums, her shoes are by Blowfish and the sunnies are Ray Ban. Steph is wearing a cardy and T from Urban Outfitters. Her shorts are from Topshop and her hat is from Portobello market. They both like the snow, however Steph is a skier while Juby is a snowboarder.
