Out and about....first recognition

From Fashionistable
Well this was a first for me. When I asked Kathryn if I could take her picture she hesitated and I was sure she was going to say no - turned out she was late to meet her new flatmate. Anyway I convinced her and then she said "its for your blog? Whats your blog called?" I said Fashionistable and her reaction totally bowled me over as she said "oh my goodness you are Dvora I love your blog". Well I can tell you suddenly there were two very happy people walking to my chosen location. I have seen films of The Sartorialist were people realise who he is when he mentions the name of his blog and the look on their faces. I was amazed at how I was feeling feeling from the other side, I wonder if he feels this way too. Kathryn is a freelance copywriter and hails from Canberra in Australia. She came to the UK for 6 months, 6 years later with an ever extending visa she is still here and loving it. Her favourite place in London is Battersea Power Station and described it as the most beautiful building she has ever seen. When I asked her about her style influence she told me she has been accused (by kids on the street who are happy to shout it) of dressing in the dark. All I can say is that eventually the kids grow up. She likes lots of different colour. It is precisely her use of colour that pulled me towards her. Kathryn is going through very big changes in her life at the moment. She see's it as a time to blossom and move forward. For our shot today she is wearing glasses she bought on a trip to Cinqe Terre in Italy, her top is a Sienna Miller Twenty8Twelve, the belt was a present from her ex-boyfriend, skirt H&M, boots from the online shopping site Cocosa, finally the bag is from Thailand. When we parted ways I looked back and saw her do a little skip, it was exactly how I felt too.

Out and about....modern tribal

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Surprisingly I have met quite a lot of stylists recently on my travels. I am thinking they are living up to their name and Nasrin is no exception in this story. She has great personal style and her work is wonderful too - you can see it here. I was very lucky to catch her as I had spotted her across the street but when I went to catch up with her she disappeared. Luckily I was still in the area (I had popped into a shop to buy a sandwich) when she came wondering back. She told me that her style influences are based on memories are emotional and eclectic. It is a mix of all sorts of things from the four corners of the earth. She is a Londoner and her favourite place in the city is Portobello Rd. She couldn't think of anything surprising to tell me about herself so I asked what the last movie she had watched was, she told me she had just rewatched The Notebook and loved it all over again. Her look today is made up of a headscarf from Kooples, dress from H&M, Topshop shoes, vintage bag, necklace from NYC and harness by Hannah Marshall.

Out and about....facing traffic

From Fashionistable
Maria is from Latvia and works in fashion retail for Net-A-Porter. She has only been in the UK 4 or 5 months so is new here. She says she has been surprised by the weather and the very nice people here. Her favourite place so far is Greenwich, which reminds me I haven't been there for a very long time. Must check it out again. She told me she tends to drink a lot of coffee and coke. Her headphones belong to her boyfriend, says they have a good sound, she was listening to SOAD when I stopped her.
Her shirt is H&M, trousers Burberry, shoes Hilfiger and she bought her bag in a street market.

Out and about....is a cinch

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Phoebe is a 1st year fashion student at Middlesex Uni. Her own personal style is so amazing that I am so looking forward to seeing her designs on the catwalks and the shelves. She told me she takes all opportunities as they come along and boy are they coming her way. Just before we met she had been invited to appear on a TV dating show "You've been spotted", she has appeared in advertising for Swatch watches and is in a film which is going to Cannes called Separate Ways. See what I mean, just look what an open mind will bring you. When I ask for surprises from my subjects I sometimes get them in abundance. Her look today is comprised of glasses from Therapy, a vintage scarf and skirt, H&M top and tights, corset from What Katie Did, shoes from Miss Sixty and gloves from Topshop.
I couldn't resist the 2nd shot as she walked away, even the soles of her shoes are co-ordinated. Wonderful. (A quick note to girls who don't take the prices off the soles of their shoes - see how important it is that you do. It is just important to make a good impression from the back as it is from the front.)

Out and about....walking with Jesus

From Fashionistable
I met Cassie as she was walking Jesus through Soho. Her and her boyfriend named him Jesus as he was born on Christmas day, he is cute huh. Cassie works part-time for Vivienne Westwood, she also has her own business in Camden called Guts for Garters. When I asked her where favourite place in London was she said it was Soho "it is the heart and soul of London. I wouldn't change it for the world." Very happily she also lives there. Her surprising story was that she had just done a naked photo shoot the day before. For this shot she is wearing, a vintage overcoat, jacket by Child of the Jago, H&M trousers, Joux Joux shoes. Her glasses are Ray Ban and belt is by Vivienne Westwood.

Out and about....sunny and colourful

From Fashionistable
I thought I would bring a bit of sun and colour into your lives for the weekend. I love how Ayo has used colour and pattern in what she is wearing here. The flash of check, the contrasting print on her belt and skirt and the way the heart on her T mirrors the pink spots of her socks. All pulled together by this amazing background we met near. Ayo is a Londoner and while studying Economic History is working in fashion PR on the side. Busy lady. Unsurprisingly her style influence is colours and boy does she use them well. Surprisingly she told me she is a bit of a geek which her friends find hard to believe. Her geekiness centers around the TV. She loves to watch sport. Football, (Chelsea) with her Dad and athletics. Her coat is vintage from Portobello Market. The rest is a T from Urban Outfitters, H&M skirt and hoodie, vintage belt, Office shoes and LV bag.

Out and about....Recognise Magazine

From Fashionistable
I have to say I have been finding it hard to motivate myself in this flat light we have been having and the cold, cold, cold. It is so cold my camera keeps stopping and I have to take the battery out and warm it up under my arm before even it wants to play again. This has never happened before. It makes me respect my fellow photographers who work in even colder climes. My hat is well and truly off to you. Respect. Mind you it is all worth while as the people I meet are just so brilliant and giving. It is always so good to hear peoples stories. I never know just who I have stopped. Today it turned out that Cleo is the editor of Recognise magazine. Take a look, looks pretty cool to me. However it is not the only string to her bow as she also works for the boxer David Haye. When I asked her what her style influence was she told me Morticia from the Adams Family - she loves to wear black. Here she is wearing a scarf from Portobello Market. The leather jacket belongs to a friend. The black bobbly cardy over the top of the leather is from Topshop. Her bag is from H&M, the dress is an eBay purchase and her shoes are from ASOS.

Out and about....Thouq

From Fashionistable
Yousef is from Kuwait and is the fashion editor for the online magazine Thouq. He was in London for 10 days, for inspiration and to find lots of different looks. He told me that from his perspective each of the big European cities have their own unique look and feel. Paris is black, Milan is colour and London is a combination of both and is also funky. His own style is either casual or extreme depending on his mood. It was a cold day, so casual was obviously winning. His surprise and I guess phobia too is rabbits - no rabbit fur for him then. His hat he bought in Paris but can't remember where from. Sweater is H&M, jeans are by Marc Jacobs, boots are Gucci, bag Balenciaga and the shades are Ray Ban. The amazing chunky bracelet is by Givenchy, his watch is a Swatch and his ring was custom made and is his name in Arabic.

Out and about....Oxford belle

From Fashionistable
My parents have been to visit and we went to Oxford for the day which is were I spotted Zoe. Amazingly she is originally from London but is now a fresher at Worcester College Oxford, where she is studying English. Her clothing choices are based on what is comfortable and what she likes. At the moment it is anything warm. She told me that once when she was 15 and on work experience at a law court the Judge mistook her for the wife of a criminal - obviously the Judge misjudged her. I would have imagined that would have felt quite scary for her 15 year old self. When we met she was wearing a hat from Topshop, H&M jacket and tights, Primark skirt and amazingly the boots are Uggs.

Out and about....organised

From Fashionistable
I have been meeting a lot of native Londoners on my travels recently which is great. Kate is one of them. She works for an events agency. Organising mainly corporate events. As a result, how she is dressed now, is as edgy as she can get away with on a day to day basis. Otherwise her style influences are Goodwood Vintage, Celebs and the TV. Here both her jacket and necklace are vintage. Her dress is H&M, boots are Topshop and bag is Mulberry. Kate is fluent in Italian having studied and lived there. I would love to be able to speak Italian.

Out and about....In the frame

From Fashionistable
I was heading into town to take pictures when I saw Chloe on my train. As we got off at the same stop I thought perfect great start to the day. Chloe is a Londoner. She has just graduated from Westminster and is working for Calumet at the moment. Chloe is also a photographer, you can see her work here. She told me 'I photograph anything and everything at the moment until I work out exactly what I want to do'. For her pictures she likes to shoot on film and says 'it's very expensive, but I like it'. I am purely digital now but I know there are quite a few of you out there who still have celluloid dreams. I just love the magic of digital. Isn't it great we all have a choice now. It was Chloe's red hair that caught my eye and all those lovely warm layers. Her style influence's are Edie Sedgwick and Alison Mosshart from the Kills. Today Chloe has put her look look together with a hat and bag from Accessorize, scarf from River Island, charity shop jumper,  Primark jacket, H&M jeans and boots borrowed from her housemate. When I asked Chloe for something surprising about herself she told me 'I am not as old as I look.' I didn't think she looked old at all but then she told me she was 19 and I could see what she meant. She also has a wise head on those young shoulders which also gives you a different perspective on her age.

Out and about....beautiful

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Charlene is a London lass but is a beautiful mix of her mothers Chinese and Malaysian background and her Sri Lankan dad.It was her face and hair that stopped me in my tracks. Work wise she is an Art Director. Style wise she told me she is not a shopper. When she see's what she wants in her minds eye she will then take herself out to find it. At the beginning of the summer it was a particular dress that she could see with birds on - which she did eventually find. She also loves bows and wears them in some form all the time. Today you can see one on her fingers which is from Accessorize and one you cant see just under her hair as part of the earrings which she made herself. I love the way she has put her colours together. The green cardy picking up the colour on her shoes and the pink bag with the socks.  Her cardy is from Zara, T from H&M, jeans River Island, bag Topshop and she couldn't remember where her shoes were from.

Out and about....colourful and fun

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
I think that Kay's lovely smile says a lot about her it is great. Style wise she told me that her influences were Hitchcock films, cosmetics from the 60's, and clothing which allows her to show her character. For this look I love the way she has taken one solid base colour and added a riot of other colours around it. Kay is an artist and incorporates photography, painting and textiles into her work. She feels by mixing the media it allows her to create something new. To supplement her student income she works in a store in Carnaby St called Year Zero. It was only when I was processing my close up of her that I realised the needles on her T made it look like she was being injected. My aim had been to show you her accessories. Now it looks edgy and pretty all at the same time. Her T and trousers are from Year Zero. Then all the added colour is -  vintage scarf from Deptford market, earrings Topshop, denim shirt H&M, boots DM's, there are so many great variations of these around at the moment it is making me wish for a pair again. Her bracelets are from Funky Bling and she said her bag was random from Pop.

Out and about....well spotted

From Fashionistable
Estelle is from the South of France, well I have blogged about 3 people going there over the past month now we have someone who is here from there. Estelle was a model for 6 years and is now a personal shopper and an assistant for designer Salvatore Rullo, and loves living in London. She came for the weekend and stayed. For her own style choices she likes to mix cheaper items with expensive. Trends don't matter to her, she likes to be individual and doesn't follow fashion. Today Estelle's waistcoat and T belongs to her boyfriend. Her Hamsa (hand) necklace and rings are from Morocco. Her other necklaces are from all over the place. The shorts and bag are from Topshop, boots are New Look and glasses are H&M.
It is my wedding anniversary tomorrow and Mr Fashionistable and I are breaking free for the day. So I bid you all adieu until the other side of the weekend. Have a good one. Xxxx

Out and about....Amsterdam

From Fashionistable
I am going to start with the most surprising things about Manuela. The biggest most surprising thing is that she is 35 I nearly fell over when she told me. When I told Mr Fashionistable he said we need some of the same genes as her. Now I dont normally ask peoples ages as I feel it is irrelevant when it comes to style. When I saw Manuela she was in a busy shopping street in Amsterdam and when I asked if I could take her picture she said yes if we could wait for her daughter. I said of course. Of course. When her daughter came out of the shop with her slice of pizza I was surprised on 2 levels one that she was older than I thought she would be (she is 9) and was beautiful like her mother but looked totally different. She was much lighter in colour and had the most striking blue eyes. I had to ask how was this possible and Manuela told me that she looks just like her (Manuela's) mum. Manuela is Dutch and designs accessories and jewelery. Her style inspiration is mostly vintage. For this shot Manuela's hat is a Stetson, Her jacket and top are H&M, her gold belt used to belong to her mum when she was young. The shorts are from Zara and her shoes are Italian. Then the bag she is wearing is vintage and the pink bag in the basket on the front of her bike is Longchamp.

Kristina is originally from Russia, then New Zealand and has been in the UK for 2 years now. The rest of her outfit is made up of Gap T, H&M trousers. Nine West shoes and Mimco bag. Out and about....when the kids are united

Riki and Jessy
From Fashionistable

Alex and Milo
From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Don't Riki, Jessy, Alex and Milo look great. They were very cool too. They all go to different schools but met each other through friends. Mostly their style is inspired by music. For Riki it is Yannis Philippakis from Foals. Oh and the Bombay Bicycle Club. Milo likes old Brit pop and especially the The Libertines for Alex it is Florence and the machine or Bloc Party. For Jessy though it was her mum who was a fashion designer before she came along.
Riki is wearing a T from Uniqlo, jeans from Red Herring and Nike shoes. Jessy has on short dungarees from River Island, top from Adidas, amazing tights from a trip to France. Her boots are Urban Outfitters and her bag is Paul Smith. Alex wears 2 jackets - the outer one is from Rokit, the inner hoodie is from American Apparel. Her stripy T and leggings are from H&M and her boots like Jessy are also Urban Outfitters. Milo has on a hoodie also from American Apparel, the all important black and gold Fred Perry polo, jeans from H&M and shoes from Vans. He then went on to tell me that his boxers were Calvin Klein which made everyone smile.
