Out and about....Belfast, Castle Place

From Fashionistable
I was amazed when I realised that both the girls I had photographed in Belfast were called Rachel. Our Rachel today works for Urban Outfitters. Her top skirt and tights are all from there, she told me her bosses would be pleased she wearing so much from the store for the picture. Her jacket is H&M. The boots are Miss Selfridge and her bag is from Pauls Boutique. She asked me to mention her friend who had just cut her hair. His name is Connor McCullagh and he works for Paul Stafford.

Out and about....LFW Super Model 2

From Fashionistable
Georgia described herself as a stylist and model she is with Select models. She looked like she had just walked out of the era Bianca (see below) made her name in. In fact when Bianca married Mick she wore a big floppy hat like this. Georgia just looks so cool. Her ring is amazing. She couldnt remember where she got it from but is was so big is sat across and had rings for 3 of her fingers.

So London Fashion Week is over. But I still have lovely people to show you. Today I have 2 models to show you.
Bianca Jagger still beautiful in momochrome. When I took her picture she asked me not to shoot from a crouching position that when you are over 40 you should avoid that angle. Good tip. I will apply it when I can in future. When I had finished shooting there was a young guy beside me filming - he asked who she was.........he knows now.

Out and about....mother of mine

From Fashionistable
Here is the reason for my trip to Belfast. My mum. It was her birthday. Her 70th. She looks amazing. We cant believe she is 70 already. Mind you neither can she. Mum has always been stylish. I have very early memories of her all dressed up and ready to go out for the night coming in to kiss me goodnight before her and dad headed out, wearing sparkly dresses, hair dressed and up, fab make up and I remember orange earrings for some reason. I also remember a story where her and dad were going out to a dinner dance and mum wore a pant suit with gold top and white trousers. The guys on the door wouldn't let her in because she was wearing trousers..... Luckily the top was on the long side (mini dress length) so she went back to the car took off the trousers and carried on with the night. I always loved this story.
The bag she is carrying is also steeped in memory - for all of us it is the memory of another similar bag she had, had which we all loved. It was so loved I think it fell apart over the years but was missed by us all (I have 3 sisters). Mum found this replacement recently in a vintage shop and I have to say I am envious. I want one. It reminds me of a poem I read once by Ruth Fainlight  called Handbag - or the other way round actually the poem reminded me of the bag when I first read it on the London underground. Here it for you all to enjoy too -
"My mother's old leather handbag,
crowded with letters she carried
all through the war. The smell
of my mother's handbag: mints
and liptsick and Coty powder.
The look of those letters, softened
and worn at the edges, opened,
read, and refolded so often.
Letters from my father. Odour
of leather and powder, which ever
since then has meant womanliness,
and love, and anguish, and war."

Happy Birthday Mum. Love you xxxx

Out and about....Belfast, just outside Victoria Square

When I was leaving Hollister with Rachael I spotted Benny and thought I have to come back here and see if he will let me photograph him too. When I went back to the store there was a long queue to get in, so I asked for the manager to ask if it was OK for him to come out to have his picture taken and then Benny to see if he was happy with the idea. As you can see the answer was yes. Benny is a busy guy. He works in Hollister (everything he is wearing is from the store), is a model with All Ireland Models and is studying pharmacy at Queens University. An all round cool guy.

Out and about....Belfast, Victoria Square

From Fashionistable
Wel, well, well Belfast didn't disappoint. When I was growing up there it was a bit of a back water, and way behind in the fashion stakes. I am glad to see that has all changed. It is amazing what peace can do for people. I spotted Rachael as she was coming down a escalator in a new cool shopping center called Victoria Square. Of course I was on the opposite side of the center when I saw her and had a bit of running to do, finally catching up with her inside Hollister. Most of what Rachael is wearing including the flower in her hair is from Topshop. She bought her Converse high tops when she was on a ski trip in Italy.

OK so maybe I let too much flare into the lens - but then again maybe not. The light was lovely and it was difficult not to play with it and Lucy is so pretty she can take it. Lucy is a dancer and told me she had always wanted to sing, dance and act. She moved to London last August and is currently performing in the West End show Dirty Dancing.
Lucy bought her scarf at the Clothes Show in Birmingham. The rest of her look is made up from Zara jacket. Bag and jeans H&M, sweater charity shop and finally River Island boots.

I know I said I wasnt going to post anything else until next week but I met Shoichi and had to tell you about him now. I had a real treat when I stopped Shoichi . Not only was he amazingly dressed his story was amazing too. He is a an artist from Tokyo. Known mainly for his sculpture he has also created everything he is wearing, his clothing, his shoes and his jewelery.  If you click on the link above he told me he you can see his home and all the furniture he created for there too. He calls himself a recyle artist as all the materials he uses are recycled. His attention to detail is wonderful he told me that all the stitches in his jacket were individually hand stitched. He is in London as he is taking part in an exhibition in Flowers Central gallery 21 Cork Street in London from the 9th to the 14th of Feb. The exhibition is called Life Believes and is a group show of 7 artists that the owner of the Irish Island Inishturkbeg brought together. Shoichi is the only eastern artist taking part. He told me he created his sculpture for the show from an abandoned fuel tank. If you are in London and have time go and have a look. This was amazing serendipity yet again, every time I am about to travel somewhere I meet someone with a connection to the place I am going and just before I head off to Ireland (were I am also from off course) I meet Shoichi.

Goodbye Mr McQueen

From Fashionistable
I am in shock. Alexander McQueen was one of my favourite designers. I loved the beauty of his designs and his sense of drama. I will miss him.

I nearly missed Paola, but am very glad I didnt she was so laid back and self assured it really shows. She just looks so effortlessly stylish and cool. Paola is Milanese and has been living in London for 8 years now. She told me she absolutely adores the city. Says it is great for meeting people from all over the world (I can vouch for that as I am certainly meeting people from all over the globe while I shoot for the blog). And the nightlife is brilliant. Can you see her lovely green ring. Her Dad is a jeweler back home in Milan and she got it from him, lucky girl. I am off now for a few days see you all next week sometime.

Out and about....Gold Coast

From Fashionistable
From Fashionistable
Sarah is from the (surprise, surprise) Gold Coast of Australia. She has only been in the UK for a few weeks and in true Aussie style is thinking of all the other places she will visit in Europe while she is here. Now it was Sarah's Alexander Wangs inspired plat that grabbed my attention. She is the first I have seen following his lead while I have been out and about. I have a feeling with the changing season that is all about to change. Apart from the traveling Sarah will also have her hands full as she is working as an Au Pair for the next year and is looking after 3 children who are 3 months, 4 and 6 years. She says this is only mornings and evenings though and she gets the day free - I hadn't realised the little school kid was in the full length shot at the time of shooting. I loved he was there when I saw him. Very apt for Sarah's story right now. Her great hat is from Mimco, her top is from Bassikeand her leggings are from Sass and Bide and are all Australian brands. The bag as you can see is a Marc Jacobs and finally her coat is French Connection.

From Fashionistable

I saw Hitomi across the road and thought, she looks great and the light was good. Brilliant. Then when I shot her and she moved so well, I was counting my blessings. She had just picked up her dry cleaning when I met her (we hung it on a railing beside me while we shot) and was on her way back to the office. Hitomi is a TV producer for an Ad agency called TMW. She told me she had, had a very stressful day so far on the launch of a new brand of Infiniti car. Mind you, you would never have known, as she was so charming. We were both wearing coats by Pinko (but different styles). Her lovely dusky layered dress is by Giles Deacon. The cool over the knee boots are from Topshop and her bag is from Russell and Bromley. She also told me that her sister was a blogger, here is her link if you would like to check her out worshipatthehouseof blues.

Out and about....outside the Royal Court Theatre

From Fashionistable
Alice is English and is an actress - it was just serendipity that she was sitting outside the Royal Court Theatre when I swa her with her friends. In contrast to my trip to Israel, she has just come back from filming in Gaza on a film which is still in production called Picnic in Gaza by PVK pictures.
Alice's contrasting green wrap and royal blue ankle boots grabbed my attention. She bought her wrap in Peru and is made from Alpaca wool. And her boots are from Urban Outfitters.

Out and about....Tel Aviv-Rehov Sheinkin

From Fashionistable
I have been to Israel many times now, but this is the first time as Fashionistable. It was cold this trip and rained a couple of days so not the usual sunshine I am used to.
Now I dont know what was going on with the people, maybe it was just because it was winter and the middle of the week, but where I find an average of 1 person an hour to shoot in London it was taking me 3 hours to find one in Tel Aviv. I was seeing plenty of lovely faces but the fashion was just not matching up.
I had decided to stop for a hot chocolate and a cake and thank goodness Adam was standing behind the counter. Adam is Colombian and is getting ready to apply to the Bezalel art school in Jerusalem. He is a surrealist painter. I wish him every success. Everything he is wearing is from Colombia except for the vest which he had just bought from a shop called 11 Paris on Sheinkin St, which is the same street he is on working for now.
